The second movement (and my personal favourite) of Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade highlights several different instruments, exploring texture and the many stories which the princess (depicted by the first violin) is said to have told the Sultan. Performed by the Maruki Community Orchestra in June of 2010.
Audio format: MP3 | Size: 7.5mb | Duration: 8 minutes

First performed in 1918, Mars is the opening movement to Holst's suite, The Planets. The first public premiere was performed with the musicans only having 2 hours to look at the music. Thankfully, the Maruki Community Orchestra had several months to learn the music, resulting in this performance.

Composed in the early 1900s, this is an impressionistic piece for solo Harp, written by the most influential Harp composer of the time. The piece is designed to bring out many technical features of the harp (several of which were only being invented at this time), while featuring a dance section, which is the central melody of the piece.
Video format: FLV | Size: 4mb | Duration: 2 minutes | Dimensions: 240x176
Downloadable formats: FLV (4mb), MP4 (1mb), MP3 (2mb).
Written as the first of three short pieces for solo Harp, this piece was written to be a gentle and relaxing beginning to the trio. The piece encompasses a soft, melodic, initial melody, contrasted with the more animated, flowing middle section. Hasselmans was a very notable harpist and harp composer, also teaching several prominent students, including M. Grandjany and Salzedo.

File Format Help
FLV, or Flash Video, can not usually be played by Flash Player alone. To play Flash Videos, I recommend downloading an FLV Player (something like this, or VLC Media Player, which can open FLVs for you).
MP4 files can normally only be played by Quicktime or itunes (MP4s are capable of being played on iPods, too), however as well as these two I would recommend VLC Media Player, which is able to play a wide variety of video and audio formats.
MP3 files are audio-only. They can be played by several programs (for example, Windows Media Player). If you can't play them, you may want to download iTunes, VLC, Quicktime, or Media Player.
